Over all it was not terrible, expect to walk in sit down on uncomfortable metal chairs until they sign you in. Once signed in you will have your phone taken if you brought it and they lock it in a closet, they will give you bedding and if you're one of the first to arrive you can pick the room you stay in (each room has a minimum of 3 beds in it). The first night you don't do much, I would recommend getting to know the people you're there with, the 48 hrs will go by a lot faster if you're social (mark made it much more enjoyable as well). You will be asked to fill out a paper asking you all sorts of questions about your drinking and what happened the night of your incident. The beds kinda suck like one of those old 3 tear gym mats in elementary school, if you're going in winter I recommend bringing some extra clothes or blankets. Around 6 they bring in some food from the rehab up the street, it's not very good so bring some cash to order out. They will let you order the food from the office phone in the house. After you eat you go right back to doing nothing until they make you go to bed at 10:30pm. They do have a tv but that's it that's the only thing to do, so bring a book, crosswords, news papers or magazines. Day 2 they wake you up about 7:30 give you time to shower eat some bagels drink some coffee and do whatever you have to do before the day. From 9-3 they have one of the counselors go through about half of the IDRC book simultaneously calling each person back into the office to determine where you will go to get evaluated. The evaluator would be local to your home and you get to choose where you go. The evaluator is there to ask you 1000 questions about you, your drinking, your life and everything that led up to getting you where you are. They will determine from all of the questions they asked you depending how you answered, if you require any further treatment and can give you up to 16 weeks in meetings and drug tests. After the IDRC book you guessed it, right back to doing nothing until about 7 to 8 when they have some AA speakers show up and tell you their stories. My group got lucky and that landed on a Thursday so we got to watch thursday night football until we'r had to go to bed. The 3rd day is probably the longest where you go through the rest of the book and he really kicks you in the nuts a couple times. All in all it was a good experience and very informative. All the counselors were pretty laid back and did a great job with the information. Do not show up intoxicated they will refuse you and send you home. Do not try and sneak anything in, they search you on entry. Good luck and I hope this helps, this was my first time going through something like this and I didn't know what to expect when I got there. Things to bring: Snacks Extra blankets Towel Soap and shampoo More snacks If you smoke, enough cigarettes to get you through 4 days (you will smoke a lot out of boredom) More snacks Cash for ordering food Entertainment/reading material
